Oakleaf Clinics - Business Office has an exciting opportunity to join our growing team as a billing representative. We seek a highly motivated, reliable, and dependable individual to join our team. This individual must be able to work productively, independently, and effectively.

Our healthcare team consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dietitians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and medical assistants working in concert with laboratory/imaging services to offer individualized care to the Chippewa Valley.
Position description
As a billing representative, you are responsible for working the lifecycle of a claim to the highest level and ensuring that all patient information is accurate and up to date within our EHR system. This includes but is not limited to preparing, researching, following up on unpaid claims, processing denials, and researching payer trends. You will review under and overpayments and provide expertise to clients about insurance filing requirements.
Responsibilities
- Follow up on unpaid claims, process denials, and research payer trends
- Review under and overpayments using our Clearinghouse to find variances, work claim source rejections, and send overpayment and under-payment appeals to insurance
- Provide billing expertise to clients about insurance filing requirements and payer trends
- Maintain an approachable and positive attitude when interacting with all levels of personnel in a rapidly changing environment
- Receive notices of claim rejections and denials, then properly track and resolve issues to ensure claim payments in an accurate and timely manner, including sorting, scanning, faxing, and loading records on portals
- Perform troubleshooting for billing, coding, payment posting, credentialing, and prior authorization errors
- Work with customer service, coding, payment posting, credentialing, and prior authorization departments along with clinic staff to identify and resolve issues
- Maintain accurate billing analysis reports and communicate implications promptly to the appropriate parties
- Notify the lead/supervisor of any late or overdue claims and insurance issues or changes
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in health information management technology (preferred)
- Previous experience in a healthcare environment (preferred)
- Medical coding or billing experience (preferred)
- RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, COC credentials (preferred)
- Possess a thorough understanding of claims management, payer denials, and remittance codes
- Experience and extensive knowledge of insurance payer rules
- Experience with CPT and ICD-10 coding (preferred)
- Experience working in Epic (preferred)
- Excellent interpersonal skills and comfortable working in a flexible team environment
- Ability to multi-task quickly and effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Effective customer relation skills
- Ability to organize and interpret data
Work environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting.
Physical demands

Major activities of this job include sitting or standing for long periods and light physical effort performed on a level surface. The office involves carrying, lifting, kneeling, bending, reaching, and squatting. Use a computer and telephone and employ writing and organizational skills. Manual dexterity, mobility, and good vision, including near acuity, depth perception, and accommodation, are necessary for technical work.
