Round Ligament Pain During Pregnancy
Round ligament pain can pain in your side - LITERALLY!! The uterus is supported by bands that run from the upper abdomen on both sides. These "growing pains" are caused by the uterus growing/expanding and the ligaments get stretched, pulled on, and thinned out. Sometimes the weight of the uterus pulling on these ligaments can cause quick, sharp pain or a dull ache in the abdomen. This can happen with position changes and a cough or sneeze for example. Resting with your feet up can help to relieve the discomfort.
Talk to your provider about maternity support belt/band options. It is important to know that round ligament pain is not associated with fever, chills, or vaginal bleeding. Please call your provider if you have concerns.
